Plan a Visit to St. Petersburg

Plan one day away from beautiful St. Pete Beach with a short adventure to our neighbors to the east: St. Petersburg. The “Sunshine City” is a diverse community filled with engrossing art galleries, thought-provoking museums, entertaining live theater, and crisp, refreshing craft beer. The heart of St. Petersburg is less than ten miles from Travel Resort Services’ vacation rentals in Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, and St. Pete Beach, making it a perfect half or full-day distraction on a dreaded rainy day. Luckily for prospective tourists, there are plenty of things to do in St. Petersburg – make a brief stop at these three Gulf Coast staples!

Duncan McClellan Gallery

Once heralded the premier hidden gem in St. Pete, the Duncan McClellan Gallery has quickly become one of the top things to do in St. Petersburg (it currently ranks #1 on TripAdvisor). Don’t expect a grand, three-story complex full of jewels from across the country. This small gallery features the finely-crafted glasswork of Duncan McClellan and various artworks from over a dozen nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. This 7,800 square foot facility, the former home to a fish and tomato packing plant, now features a lush, tranquil sculpture garden.

The Dali Museum

The Dali Museum makes an immediate impact upon arrival thanks to the stunning 900-panel glass entryway. Salvador Dali turned the art world upside in the late 1920s thanks to his vivid, thought-provoking surrealist paintings. His most famous work, “The Persistence of Memory,” was painted in 1931. This museum is the most extensive collection of Dali’s artwork outside of Europe; it features oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, graphics, photographs, sculptures, and objets d’art. The $30 million museum is a spectacle in and of itself.

American Stage Theatre Company

Many guests head downtown after dark to the American Stage Theatre Company, the pride of St. Petersburg. American Stage is widely considered as one of the premier performing theater companies in the United States. The company is currently practicing for October’s performance of Between Riverside and Crazy, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play written by Stephen Adly Guirgis. You’ll have the rare opportunity to watch an award-worthy performance inside intimate Raymond James Theatre, across the street from Williams Park. Check their up-to-date calendar for live improv performances, which is always a hot ticket in St. Petersburg.
