The city of St Petersburg, for many tourists, is known as a bypass between lively Tampa and beautiful St Pete Beach; yet, many of the area’s premier museums rest in the “Sunshine City.” St Petersburg is also home to several of the Tampa Bay Area’s best restaurants and breweries as well as the Tampa Bay Rays. We’ve hand-selected three of our favorite St Petersburg museums, all of which are approximately eight miles from Travel Resort Services’ gulf-view St Pete Beach condo rentals.

The Dali Museum

Very few artists have had a more substantial impact of the art world than Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí. The visually-striking $30 million Dali Museum celebrates the astonishing artwork of this creative genius. This massive museum houses hundreds of his oil paintings, drawings, watercolors, photographs, sculptures, and objets d’art, which amounts to the largest collection of Dali’s artwork outside of Europe. The museum showcases nearly 100 of Dali’s oil paintings, including “Daddy Longlegs of the Evening-Hope!,” “Disappearing Bust of Voltaire,” and “The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory.”

Imagine Museum

We highly recommend seeking out Central Avenue’s Imagine Museum, a true St Petersburg hidden gem. Imagine Museum showcases hundreds of contemporary studio glassworks from artists across the globe. Embark on a daily tour to learn in-depth information about these talented artists and their methods. The museum is currently showcasing especially-gorgeous glassworks from Alex Bernstein, Mark Peiser, Brent Kee Young, and K. William LeQuier (among many others). The works of art glow inside the dimly-lit museum, creating a surreal atmosphere for visitors. Imagine Museum’s exterior resembles an ocean with its teal and blue coating. The Chihuly Collection inside the Morean Arts Center is yet another glasswork museum worth visiting!

Duncan McClellan Gallery

The Duncan McClellan Gallery, once a hidden gem, has become the #1 thing to do in St Petersburg according to TripAdvisor. This gallery is one of the smallest yet most interesting St Petersburg museums thanks to its lush sculpture garden, outdoor courtyard, and 3,000-square-foot gallery. At the McClellan Gallery, you’ll discover yet another heavenly glasswork museum with pieces from some of the best names in the business. What once was a fish and tomato-packing plant has been transformed into a unique space for art lovers to gather, relax, and interact.
